At a major innovation summit in France, PM Modi positioned India as a tech creator, not just a consumer, reflecting the nation’s growing role in the global innovation economy.

India’s tech story is now entering a new phase, and the message from Prime Minister NarendraModi at Bharat Innovates 2026 was clear that the country wants to be seen as a builder of global solutions. Speaking at the 3-day innovation conclave in Nice, France, Modi said India is no longer merely adopting technology from the world but increasingly shaping it.

The event, launched alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, brought together over 120 Indian startups, research institutions, investors, and policymakers to showcase the country’s deeptech capabilities on an international stage. The summit forms part of a broader effort to strengthen India-France collaboration in artificial intelligence, climate technology, biotech, and advanced manufacturing.

From startup nation to innovation exporter.

Over the past decade, India has built one of the world’s largest startup ecosystems. Government-backed initiatives like Digital India and Startup India have helped fuel growth across fintech, AI, and space technology. Bharat Innovates 2026 appears to be the next step in that journey, a platform designed to take Indian innovation beyond domestic markets.

The event showcased technologies spanning AI-driven healthcare, green energy solutions, and space research, reflecting how India’s innovation landscape has diversified. Officials say the aim is to position Indian startups as partners in solving global challenges rather than simply scaling local businesses.  A key theme at the summit was collaboration. Modi called on global investors and innovators to co-create with India, emphasizing shared progress over isolated competition.

A strategic shift in India’s tech identity.

Bharat Innovates 2026 is more than a showcase, it reflects a strategic shift. India is positioning itself not just as a market of 1.4 billion people, but as a source of scalable, exportable innovation.

This comes at a time when nations are increasingly looking at technology partnerships to secure supply chains, accelerate AI development, and address climate concerns. For India, such partnerships also strengthen its geopolitical and economic standing. For global investors and policymakers, that distinction is becoming harder to ignore.
