Salesforce is reportedly exploring the acquisition of artificial intelligence startup Listen Labs in a deal worth around $2 billion, according to reports citing people familiar with the discussions. The talks are still in the early stages and may not ultimately result in a transaction. Founded in 2023, Listen Labs has developed an AI-powered platform designed to automate parts of the customer and market research process. Its technology can conduct customer interviews via voice and video, adapt questions during conversations, and turn responses into structured research reports.
The approach targets an area that has traditionally depended heavily on human researchers. Customer interviews and qualitative research can take weeks and require significant resources, particularly for large companies conducting research across multiple markets. Listen Labs’ platform is designed to shorten that process by using AI to handle interviews and organize the resulting information. The startup counts companies including Microsoft, Canva, and Anthropic among its customers, as per TechCrunch.
A rapid rise in valuation.
The reported acquisition discussions come only months after Listen Labs raised significant interest from venture investors. The company was previously valued at about $500 million following a $69 million Series B announced in January.
More recently, Listen Labs reportedly signed a term sheet for a $125 million Series C at a $1.5 billion valuation. That funding round was ultimately abandoned as acquisition discussions with Salesforce emerged, TechCrunch reported. The potential $2 billion price tag would therefore represent a substantial increase from the startup’s earlier valuation.
Why Listen Labs could matter to Salesforce?
The reported talks fit into Salesforce’s broader push to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities. The company has increasingly focused on AI agents and enterprise automation through its Agentforce platform.
Adding AI-driven customer research could potentially give Salesforce another layer of customer intelligence. Instead of simply managing customer information, the technology could help businesses gather and analyze direct feedback more quickly. The reported discussions also follow Salesforce’s recently announced $3.6 billion acquisition of Fin, formerly Intercom, which is focused on AI-powered customer service. Salesforce said the deal would strengthen its capabilities around autonomous AI agents.
Despite the reported $2 billion valuation, Salesforce and Listen Labs have not yet reached a completed agreement. The discussions could still end without a transaction.
