Visakhapatnam Institute signs MoU to expand quantum technology research and skills

VIIT and Quantum World Ventures plan joint initiatives covering quantum labs, research, internships, and industry-oriented learning.

A new collaboration in Visakhapatnam will bring greater focus to quantum technology education, research, and innovation, with Vignan’s Institute of Information Technology (Autonomous), Duvvada, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based Quantum World Ventures.

The agreement aims to build capabilities in emerging quantum technologies while giving students and faculty greater exposure to practical applications. The initiative also seeks to connect academic learning with industry requirements as quantum computing and related technologies develop across sectors.

Quantum labs to form a key part of collaboration.

Under the agreement, the two organisations will work to establish and promote Quantum Labs in areas including EdTech, MedTech, FinTech, SecureTech and AI/Quantum.

The proposed focus reflects the expanding scope of quantum technologies beyond computing alone. Quantum applications are being explored in areas such as secure communications, financial modelling, healthcare technologies and artificial intelligence. For educational institutions, developing dedicated laboratory facilities can give students opportunities to work with emerging technologies rather than relying entirely on classroom-based learning.

Focus on research and industry exposure.

The MoU also provides for collaboration in guest lectures, internships, placements, value-added courses, consultancy and joint research. These activities are expected to create more opportunities for students to understand how quantum technologies are being studied and applied in real-world settings. Faculty members will also have avenues for research collaboration and interaction with industry professionals.

The agreement was signed in the presence of VIIT principal J. Sudhakar, Quantum World Ventures director D. Naga Chandra Teja and the company’s CEO, Santosh Talaghatti. The National Quantum Mission, for instance, has been structured to support scientific and industrial research while building an innovation ecosystem around the sector. The government has also established thematic hubs and supported startups working across different areas of quantum technology.

For Visakhapatnam, the MoU places emerging quantum technologies within the academic and industry ecosystem, with its immediate emphasis on research, skill development and practical learning rather than technology deployment at scale.
